Xiaomi Presents the 17T Series

Xiaomi 17T Series: Leica Cameras, Better Displays, and Bigger Batteries

As we noted in the introduction the Xiaomi 17T Series use a triple-camera system created in partnership with Leica. The main camera is led by a 50 MP sensor, in fact, this is a massive 1/1.31-inch sensor for the 17T Pro whereas a 1/1.55-inch sensor is used for the 17T. The cameras will employ a Leica Summilux hybrid lens system (1G+6P) along with a Leica UltraPure Optical design, both which Xiaomi describe as ‘famous for its detail reproduction to exceptional sharpness’. Higher dynamic range and beautiful depth of field is achieved by the same large aperture on all lenses in the series.

Leica 5x Telephoto on Both Devices

The 17T Series have, for the first time, a Leica 5x Telephoto camera featured on both models in the T-series. The camera has a 50 MP sensor and optical image stabilization, with ranges that can achieve close-ups at 30 cm to a zoom of 10x optical and 120x AI Ultra Zoom, giving creators excellent flexibility at every focal length for close and distant subjects.

The telephoto system has been further enhanced in the aspect of video, with the 17T Pro gaining a cinematic 4K at 60 fps for the first time ever in a Xiaomi smartphone to give a more cinematic look with a more natural bokeh.

Modes have been specially designed, including Stage mode which ensures that complicated lighting in places such as concert halls or other performance venues are photographed with the maximum quality possible.

Leica Live Moment

The Leica Live Moment takes into account not just the moment but also the preceding motion or emotion. In this case, any quick movement or change of expression can be saved. The system will allow the Leica Live Moment to record this, adding depth to ordinary shots for everyone. It can be used across all rear camera focal lengths in all types of shot, producing a very dramatic video with characteristic Leica flair for a much more expressive visual narrative than a still image alone.

Leica Live Portrait & Live Cinematography

The Leica Live Portrait works similarly to Leica Live Moment, but instead in portrait mode, this creates a natural effect with separation between background and foreground and fluidity of motion to any shots taken with it. Exclusive Leica watermarks are available to be added to Live Moment photographs and you can save them into collages of various moments. Live Cinematography is the last function for the camera (on the 17T Pro only) and that provides Ultra-HD Live Moments (at 4K resolution) while enabling a very smooth zoom through both Freestyle and Portrait Live mode.

Better Display Technology

The system comes with the Xiaomi Vision Care system which automatically adjusts screen brightness to the environment, and controls blue light, flicker and motion blur. The 17T Series have a four level TÜV Rheinland certified eye care (including Intelligent Eye Care).

Both models in the series boast of a 1.5K AMOLED screen with up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. A 1 nit low brightness mode is available on the 17T Pro, which makes it suitable for usage in the dark.

The refresh rate can reach 144 Hz on the 17T Pro, whereas a 120 Hz refresh rate is the maximum for the 17T. The Pro employs LIPO Technology in order to make the design slimmer while also maintain symmetrical bezels, at 1.29 mm, and this results in a larger screen in the same size phone as its non-pro variant. The Xiaomi 17T has a lighter and slimmer body which fits well into a hand, suited for usage one-handed. There are micro-curved edges on the phone and very small camera bumps in the back of both models. Color variants available for the Pro are Deep Blue, Deep Violet and Black whereas for the non-pro model the color options are Violet, Blue and Black.

Battery and Performance

Both phones utilize next-generation silicon-carbon battery technologies for a higher energy density and performance.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro uses the largest battery (at 7,000 mAh) to be seen on a Xiaomi smartphone within the international market, and supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, respectively. The Xiaomi 17T supports 67W wired charging with a 6,500 mAh battery. Both models support the PPS charging standard.

Performance-wise, both phones use new generation MediaTek chipsets:

  • Xiaomi 17T Pro: Dimensity 9500 (3nm)
  • Xiaomi 17T: Dimensity 8500-Ultra (4nm)

These processors provide better CPU, GPU and AI performance for multitasking and gaming. With regards to managing thermal conditions the Xiaomi 3D IceLoop system will also be used on the 17T Series.
