Western and south-western Europe are set to experience much warmer weather in the coming days, through to the end of this week, with a rapid and significant rise in air temperatures.
South-western Europe in particular will be most affected, as it faces the first major heatwave of the season. Over the coming days and through to the end of the week, Spain and Portugal will record very high summer temperatures, with readings exceeding 30–35°C in many places, and locally temperatures could climb to nearly 40°C, according to meteorologist Slavcho Poposki.
“On the meteorological map you can see the expected temperatures forecast for south-western Europe — specifically Spain and Portugal — in the days ahead.
It is worth noting that over the extended period just passed, almost all of Europe was experiencing unusually cold weather for the month of May, with frequent rainfall, thunderstorms, low temperatures, strong winds, and snowfall on the mountains and in the Alpine region,” he added.
